Shortcuts, the integrated automation application on iPhone and iPad, have acquired new automation functionality in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13. You can now automatically launch a shortcut every time you open an application. Here’s how to set it up.
You can use the new Automations section in shortcuts to trigger automation in a variety of ways, from near field communication “NFC” to the location.
In this guide, we will focus on automating the launch of the application. This functionality can be useful in two different ways. You can configure a shortcut to automatically activate Do Not Disturb mode when you open your favorite game or start playing music when you open the Music app. You can do a lot here.
Open the “Shortcuts” application preinstalled on your iPhone or iPad and go to the “Automation” tab. use Spotlight search if you can’t find the app on your Apple device.
If this is the first time you are creating an automation, press the “Create personal automation” icon or select the Plus (+) icon at the top of the window to access the same screen.
In the list of automations, scroll down and tap on the “Open application” option.
Now press the “Choose” button next to the “Application” option.
Here, find and select the app you want to use. Then press the “Done” button.
In the next screen, press the “Next” button.
Now is the time to add actions. In this example, we’re going to add the do not disturb mode toggle, but you can find and add any action you like. Press the “Add action” button to start.
You can browse through all of the available actions or search for the “Set Do Not Disturb” option. Once you find the item, press to select it.
The action will be added to your shortcut. Press the “Off” button to configure the Do not disturb action.
Now select the “Next” button in the upper right corner.
Your automation is ready. Press the toggle next to “Ask before running” to make it a real automation (otherwise you will only see a notification from which you can activate the shortcut).
To confirm, press the “Do not ask” button.
Finally, press the “Done” button to save and activate the automation.
When you open the app you chose earlier in the setup process, you will receive a notification that the Shortcuts app is running your automation.
