Windows 10 users often need to switch between multiple speaker sets. Some can be integrated into a monitor, while others can be included in a headset or headset. Here’s how to set some speakers as the default output devices.

You can also set your default speakers in some apps

While it’s easy to choose a default speaker set that applies to each app, it’s also worthless that some apps (like Zoom) allow you to choose speakers just for that program that override the system defaults.

If you want to set a default audio output device for all system apps, read on. This will set your default speakers in Windows and apps will use them unless you configure them to do otherwise.

You can also configure default speakers application by application using a little-known feature in Windows settings.

How to choose your default speakers using Settings

Using “Windows Settings”, it’s easy to choose your default output device. First, click on the “Start” menu and select the gear icon on the left to open “Settings.” You can also press Windows + i to open it.

You can also right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar notification area (system tray) and select “Open audio settings” to go directly to the “Audio settings” screen.

In the “Settings” window, select “System”.

Click “Sound” in the sidebar of the window.

Locate the “Output” section on the “Sound” screen. In the drop-down menu titled “Choose your output device,” click on the speakers you want to use by default.

In Windows 10 audio settings, select an output device from the drop-down menu.

How to choose your default speakers using the control panel

By using the speaker icon in your system tray, you can quickly set your default speakers with just a few clicks. First, right click on the speaker icon in your taskbar and select “Sounds” from the menu that appears.

In the “Sound” window, click on the “Playback” tab.

In the “Playback” tab, you will see a list of speakers recognized by Windows. (If you don’t see the speakers you expect to see here, some troubleshooting can be in order.) In the list, highlight the speakers you want to use as the default speakers, and then click the “Set as default” button.

In Windows 10, a green check mark next to the speakers icon means this is the default device.

Close the “Sound” window by clicking the “OK” button, and you are ready to go.

After that close “Settings” and you are done. It’s as simple as that. Good listening!
