iOS 13, iPadOS 13 and macOS Catalina’s Safari updates are pretty robust. But the redesigned start page leaves something to be desired. If you don’t like the new Frequently Visited sections or Siri Suggestions, here’s how to turn them off.
How to deactivate the frequently visited section
As its name suggests, the new Frequently Visited section of the Safari start page lists the websites you visit frequently. If you already have these websites in the Favorites section, this new functionality is redundant. You may also not want Safari to display these websites for privacy reasons.
You can hide a website in this section or completely disable the Frequently visited section.
Disable the frequent visits section on iPhone and iPad
On your iPhone or iPad, open the Safari app and go to the start page. Find the Frequently Visited section, and then press and hold the icon for a website.
In the pop-up window, press “Delete”.
To disable the entire Frequently Visited section, we need to access the Settings app.
Open the Settings app and go to the “Safari” section.
Here in the General section, tap the toggle next to “Frequently visited sites”.
The Frequently visited section will instantly disappear from the Safari start page.
Disable frequently visited section on Mac
If you are using a Mac, you can customize the Frequently visited section from the Safari start page.
To remove a particular website from the Frequently Visited section, right-click the website icon, then click “Remove”.
If you want to delete the entire section of frequent visits, right-click in the empty area of the start page and uncheck the option “Show frequent visits”.
How to turn off Siri suggestions
Siri Suggestions has now made its way to the Safari app. Like the Siri suggestions in iOS, iPadOS and macOS, they are not really useful in Safari. Siri Suggestions will show you the websites in your playlist, the open tabs of other devices, and the sites it thinks you might want to visit.
Disabling the Siri Suggestions section is simple on Mac, but the option in iOS and iPadOS is hidden deep in the Settings app.
Disable Siri suggestions on iPhone and iPad
Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad, then go to the “Siri & Search” section.
Here, find the “Safari” option.
On this page, tap the toggle next to “Show Siri Suggestions in the Application” to turn off the Siri Suggestions section on the Safari start page.
Disable Siri suggestions on Mac
To hide the Siri Suggestions section in Safari on macOS Catalina, simply right-click in the blank area of the start page.
Here, click on the “Show Siri Suggestions” option.
The Siri Suggestions section will instantly disappear from the Safari start page.
