Torrents have a bad reputation, but there are many legitimate and legal reasons to download them. Although you can not use BitTorrent itself on a Chromebook, there are some great alternatives.
Torrents is synonymous with downloading illegal content such as movies, music and other pirated media, but there are also legal reasons for torrents. Any file can be shared as a torrentand sharing a file as a torrent means there is not a single server getting bogged down by handling all the traffic. You can legally download public domain movies, text and other media of the Internet Archives, and even complete images of the Linux operating system through torrents.

Download Torrents with JSTorrent
JSTorrent is available for $ 3 on the Chrome Web Store, without trial version or free. You must set a download directory the first time you open JSTorrent. Start by selecting "Settings". Then select "Choose" next to "File Download Location."
This will open the Downloads folder in your Chrome browser. Select "Open" to use it as the JSTorrent download directory or select "New Folder" if you want something different.
From there, you can configure JSTorrent to automatically open Magnet links that are commonly used to share torrents. Click "Setup" at the bottom of the settings screen.
Click on the overlapping squares in the right corner of the address bar. Then, sselect the balloon next to "Allow" and select "Done".

Open the Files application, and then right-click the torrent file name. Select "JSTorrent" and the app will open and start downloading your media content. You can see the progress of all your downloads in this window or in the notification area.

Download Torrents with Deluge
Deluge is a free torrent client for Linux operating systems. More and more Chromebooks can install desktop Linux applications. Before you start with this specific guide, you will need to enable Linux applications for your Chromebook.
Once you have enabled Linux application support, first open the Terminal application.
Type "sudo apt-get install deluge" and press Enter. Then press "Y" then Enter to continue the installation.
Close the terminal after the installation is complete. Open the Files application, and then right-click the torrent file name. Select "Copy". Then select "Linux Files" on the left side.
Right-click again and select "Paste". Open Flood in the application drawer. Select "Add Torrent" near the top, then select "File."
Select your user name on the left, and then double-click the torrent file that you copied to the Linux folder. Select "Add".
The torrent download will start, and in a short time, you'll be ready to watch your movie or browse the archives!
You can also download the torrent by URL. Select "Add Torrent" near the top and select "URL". Paste in the URL, then click "OK."
That's all! The torrent will start downloading. The file will be in the "Linux Files" folder of your Files application once the download is complete.
