WhatsApp allows anyone to call you by voice or video as long as they have your number, and you can’t turn it off. But on Android, you have the option to turn off WhatsApp calls without affecting cellular calls. Here’s how to do it.
Start by launching the WhatsApp application on your Android phone. Next, tap on the three-dot menu icon at the top right corner of the app.
From the following list of options, select “Settings”.
Enter the “Notifications” menu.
Scroll down to the “Calls” section and press “Ringtone.”
Select “None” from the list of available sounds.
Then tap on “Vibrate” and toggle it to “Off.”
Now anytime you get a WhatsApp voice or video call, your phone will not ring or make any sound. This preference will remain active until you manually reset it to the previous settings.
However, note that WhatsApp call alerts will still appear in your phone’s notifications, and unlike text messages, there is no option to turn them off completely.
If you don’t want to turn off all WhatsApp calls, you can also apply this option to a specific contact.
Return to your chat list on the main app screen and enter the private chat of the person whose calls you want to cut.
Tap the recipient’s name at the top to view their profile page.
On the next screen, go to “Personalized Notifications”.
Check the “Use personalized notifications” box at the top.
Under “Call notifications” at the bottom of the page, set “Ringtone” to “None” and “Vibrate” to “Off”.
When you do this, WhatsApp mutes that person’s call notifications. Calls from the rest of your contacts will continue to ring on your phone as usual.
At the time of writing this article, you cannot turn off WhatsApp call alerts on an iPhone. The only way to get rid of it is to turn off all WhatsApp notifications or by blocking of individual contacts to prevent them from disturbing you.
