Now that Samsung ships the Galaxy Note 10 and 10 More, you will find that the traditional method of turning off the phones does not work. Instead, you must use a new key combination or change its default settings. Here's how.

Turn off with physical buttons

On almost all other Android smartphones or tablets, you can turn off the device by long pressing the power button. This action usually launches the power menu which allows you to turn off the phone, restart it or more. On Samsung's new flagship products, this opens up the Bixby virtual assistant.

With the Galaxy Note 10 and 10 Plus, Samsung has included a new key combination to launch the power menu. Instead of just pressing and holding the power button (which Samsung calls the "side key"), you have to press and hold the power and volume down buttons at the same time for several seconds.

You can drop both funds when the power menu appears on the screen. Now all you have to do is press "Power off" and your Samsung Galaxy Note 10 or 10 Plus will shut down.

Change the push and hold action of the side button

As mentioned above, Samsung allows you to change the default behavior by long pressing the power button. Here's how you can change it if you prefer to jump straight to the power menu instead of launching Bixby.

First of all, swipe down from the top of the screen so that the notification shade is displayed. Next, tap the gear icon in the upper right corner to open the Settings menu.

Alternatively, you can access the side button menu by swiping down on the notification shade, pressing the power icon and selecting "Side key settings". You can then choose "Switch off menu" as the press and hold action.

Turn off from the quick settings panel

If you don't want to or can't use the physical buttons on the Galaxy Note 10 or 10 Plus to turn off the handset, Samsung has slipped a shortcut to the power menu in the notification shade.

To access it, swipe down from the top of the phone screen to lower the shade of notifications. From there, tap the power icon in the upper right corner next to the gear button.

Turn off with Bixby

The last option is to ask Samsung's virtual assistant, Bixby, to turn off your Samsung Galaxy Note 10 or 10 Plus.

To start, you need to launch Bixby. If you have not changed the default behavior of a long press on the power button, you can do so to display the wizard. From there, say "Turn off the phone" and your handset should be turned off.

You can also access the virtual assistant via Bixby Home by swiping the far right home screen. Here you can tap on the Bixby icon and then say, "Turn off the phone".
