Spotify Playlists and other streaming services have changed the way people listen to music. While playlists were once the preserve of the radio’s DJ, annual compilation albums like Now That’s What I Call Music, or meticulous montages for a crush, now everyone can do one in a few minutes.
You can not just throw a few loose songs together and call it one day. There is a reason Spotify, Apple and Google pay all the professionals to do it . If you’ve created something you’re proud of and want to share with the public, or just send a mixtape to a friend, Spotify makes it easy. Here’s how to do it.
Sharing playlists with friends
Open Spotify and navigate to the playlist you want to share. Click or tap the three small dots at the top and select Share. This will give you all the sharing options. Here’s what it looks like with the desktop app.
And this is what it looks like on a mobile.
Spotify integrates two options, like sharing on Facebook, Messenger and Twitter. You can also select Copy playlist link to copy a link to the playlist to your clipboard. Here is the link to my playlist Pop Punk Faves . If you click on this link, the playlist will open in a browser window, which your friend can then read in Spotify.
Public share of playlists
You can share your playlists with as many friends as you want by simply sharing the link, or by publishing somewhere publicly as your Twitter feed. But if you want foreigners to discover it, you have to share it publicly via Spotify. In this way, it will appear when people are searching for Spotify. In the screenshot below, you can see that I have searched for other punk pop playlists.
To make a playlist public via Spotify, tap or click the three small dots and select Make public. Now it will show up in Spotify searches done by other users.
Spotify’s search function is not great though. It is focused on finding songs and artists, not reading lists. If you really want people to have a chance to find your work, you should also publish it on a service like Playlists.net .
Playlists.net is exactly what it looks like: a website where people share playlists. Click Send a playlist, sign up for your Spotify account, and select the playlist you want to post. Add a title, genre, description, and header image, and click Send a playlist.
You can find my reading list Pop Punk Anthems Called Anthem Here .
Playlists are one of the main features of Spotify. I am a big fan of doing both and listening to others. If you want to have more fun, try collaborating on a playlist with your friends .
