Windows 10 Meaning of storage This feature runs automatically when you run out of disk space. It also automatically deletes files longer than 30 days in your trash. This option was enabled by default on a PC running the Updated May, 2019.
This is a useful feature! If your computer runs out of disk space, you'll probably want more. Windows will erase old files from your trash. In any case, you should not store files in your trash. But if you want to prevent Windows from doing it automatically, you can do it.
To find these options, go to Settings> System> Storage. You can press Windows + I to quickly open the Settings window.
If you want to prevent Storage Sense from doing anything automatically, you can switch the Storage Sense switch to "Off." To further configure Storage Sense, click "Configure Storage Sense, or run it now."
The "Run Storage Sense" dialog box lets you control when Windows 10 automatically runs Storage Sense. By default, it runs the option "When free disk space is low". You can also launch it every day, every week or every month.
To prevent Storage Sense from automatically deleting files from your Recycle Bin, select the "Delete files from My Recycle Bin if they are already gone" check box under Temporary Files and select "Never." By default, Storage Sense will delete been in your trash for more than 30 days.
The "Delete files from my Downloads folder" dialog box will allow Storage Sense to automatically delete files from your Downloads folder. This option was disabled by default on our PC, however.
