Your Chromebook is equipped with a built-in camera that you can use to take photos to post to your social networking accounts or to share with your friends and family. Here's how to take a picture on a Chromebook.
How to take a picture
Google recently launched Chrome OS 76 stable, which came with many new features such as Virtual Offices and one redesigning the camera application. Google moved the shutter position and camera mode, added a landscape mode and implemented some improvements in shutter speed.
For this tutorial, we will use the Chromebook Camera app in stock, although you can use any camera app. from the Play Store that you prefer.
Start by opening the Camera app on your Chromebook. You will find it in the launcher menu. Press the "Search" button on the keyboard and search for "Camera". You can also click the "All Apps" button and search for the camera icon.
Once the application is open, click the shutter button, located to the right, to take a picture.
By default, the picture is taken in landscape orientation. However, if you click "Square" before the shutter button, your photos will be square and have the same dimensions for portraits and landscapes.
As soon as you press the shutter release button, a thumbnail of the most recent photo appears in the lower right corner. You can press the shutter button to capture even more photos.
Three additional icons on the left side of the window help you even more when taking photos on your Chromebook. Click one of these items to do the following:
- Mirror the photo: Flip the perspective of the camera from left to right.
- Use grids: Add a grid to help you straighten your image before taking it.
- Timer: Take pictures with a self-timer.
Note: If you have multiple cameras on your Chromebook or have an additional USB connected, a fourth icon to switch between active cameras is displayed.
You can customize the size of your camera's grid or the duration of your timer by clicking on the gear icon. This will take you to the Settings menu.
Click on "Grid Type" or "Timer Time" to modify it as you wish. You can choose between 3 × 3, 4 × 4 and the number of gold, as well as delays of 3 or 10 seconds respectively.
How to locate your photos
Once you're done taking pictures, you'll need to search the photos on your Chromebook to view, edit, and share them with your friends and family. This can be done directly from the Camera application or from within the Files application. Here's how.
Note: Your photos will be automatically saved to the Files application if your Chromebook is running. Chrome OS version 69 or higher.

Using the photo application
As mentioned above, as soon as you take a picture, a thumbnail of the most recent picture appears in the lower right corner under the shutter icon. Click on the thumbnail to view the photo in the Gallery application.
Once the Gallery application is open, all your photos are displayed at the bottom of the window. Click on one to view it in the viewing area.
If you do not want a photo, select it and click on the trash icon at the top of the window.
Click "Delete" to delete the file.
Using the Files application
Start by opening the Files application on your Chromebook. You will find it in the launcher by pressing the "Search" button on the keyboard and searching for "Files". You can also click the "All Apps" button and search for the icon.
The default directory of recorded photos is under My Files> Downloads on the left side of the Files application.
From here, click on a photo, then choose the procedure at the top of the window. Click "Open" to choose the application to open, the Share icon to send it to a friend or the trash icon to remove it from your Chromebook.
After clicking "Open", you can also select "Change default settings" if you want your images to automatically open in an application other than Gallery.
