Lost your Amazon Fire TV remote control yet? Don’t worry, you can download a free app for your iPhone or Android smartphone that will allow you to control the device remotely. Here’s how.

First, you’ll need to download the Amazon Fire TV app for free. If you have an iPhone or iPad, download it from Application store. If you have an Android device, download the app from google play.

Then make sure you’re connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Fire TV device you want to control. The app works via Wi-Fi, so there is no need to perform a line-of-sight operation like a IR TV remote control.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, launch it, and then sign in to your account. The app will present you with a list of nearby Fire TV devices that you can control.

Likewise, the back, the house, Hamburger, the rewind, play / pause, and fast forward buttons all work the same as on a physical Fire TV remote control.

This is useful if, for example, you cook in the kitchen and put on a show in the other room for your children. Or, you can convince your neighbors that you have a haunted TV.

And, if you find your Fire TV remote control (it’s probably in the sofa cushions), you can use the app and the remote control simultaneously if you wish. Good viewing!
