LEGO has been courting adult builders for years. What better way to appeal to them than with the pop money of pop culture: nostalgia. The toy maker has announced plans to create a retail package based on the beloved 90s sitcom Seinfeld. It includes five minifigs and the TV. It is a set.
This design was originally submitted to LEGO Ideas, a tool that allows regular LEGO fans to submit their creations. Those who get 10,000 or more votes from the community are considered retail sets. The set of ideas includes the apartment, a minifig of eponymous star Jerry Seinfeld and characters from Elaine, George, Kramer and Newman. (Newman.) Look at George’s little bald helmet!
Ideas products are subject to overhaul by official LEGO designers, so the retail kit released will likely not look exactly like the model. But LEGO has released similar sets based on sitcom TV shows in the past: the Friends Central Perk Coffee and the The Big Bang Theory apartment. The Seinfeld set is expected to be ready for store shelves by the end of this year or by 2021.
