The Switch is a great console, and a lot of people are getting into it for the first time right now. But to get the most out of the Switch and its games, whether you’re playing in docked mode, portable mode, or both, you’ll want some extras. And video game accessories are often quite expensive.
Take part in our latest Shopping challenge. In keeping with the Switch’s relatively low price (especially if you opt for the Switch Lite), we wanted to see the improvements you could get in terms of hardware and accessories for only $ 100. The selections below are the best we have found in this budget.
Note that accessory prices are more fluid than some other electronic devices. If you can’t find the exact model we selected when you look, do a search around you – chances are you can find a substitute for the price or near the price, keeping your own budget low.
Save your fingers with a wireless controller
The Joy-Cons that come with the Switch are great for portable gaming, and taking out the “controller” adapter is fine for a while. But if you’re going to bite into a long game while connected to your TV, you want a large classic controller. The $ 70 Pro controller from Nintendo does not fit into this budget, but the copy of the PowerA design is more than acceptable.
It includes all of the Switch buttons with surprisingly good ergonomics, as well as two additional programmable buttons on the back. There are at least a dozen different versions of this controller based on Nintendo and other characters, but you can usually find at least one for less than $ 40. Be aware that at this price, it lacks rumble and NFC functionality. It is also not rechargeable – you need a pair of AA batteries.

Save space with a better dock
The official Nintendo Dock is unnecessarily bulky, and getting a second one will cost you $ 90. Third-party options, including this one tiny hockey puck shaped from J & Top, all include the same features for a fraction of the price. This phone holder type construction makes it easy to open and close the switch and is also much easier to throw in a backpack for a cooperative party. Note: This docking station is designed for the original Switch. It will charge the Switch Lite, but will not work for video.

Record your screen with a glass screen protector
The Switch has many fine design points, but its vulnerable plastic screen is not one of them. This doubles if you buy a Switch for your kids or plan to travel frequently with it. These tempered glass screen protectors, for original switch or Switch Lite… will keep this screen perfectly clear. Keep the extras if the originals are to crack, but to be honest, I’ve had my Switch for almost three years now and didn’t need to exchange it once.

Save your wrists with a comfortable grip
The Switch is designed for portability, but that doesn’t necessarily make it comfortable. If you’re used to draining the battery to the dregs in portable mode, you may want to grab one of these TPU cases that can slide on the tablet and Joy-Con controllers. Adding a little more weight and squishiness to the design can make it much easier to play, especially for intense multiplayer games. Different versions are available for the switch and Switch Lite.
Budget Grip for Nintendo Switch
Save your switch with a travel case
There are elaborate padded cases that can protect your Switch and all possible accessories at once. But if you’re on a budget, you’re probably going to throw it in a backpack or suitcase. This slim, fitted case can protect the most vulnerable bits of the switch, while allowing more durable controllers and docks to tumble into the luggage of your choice. Again, be sure to choose the right case for the original Switch or Switch Lite.

If you already have one of the above accessories, you may consider replacing some replacements that will keep you on budget. The Switch does not work with Bluetooth headphones for any reason, so this Bionik adapter is a great addition if you have a pair you already love.
The Switch is also a kind of battery pig, so an external USB battery can crown you. You may also want a second power adapter or an HDMI cable, so you don’t have to fish behind your TV for every trip. Finally, if you’re ready to start going crazy-personalized, you can replacement of the whole hull for a fun stylistic change.
