The Lord of the Rings The Trilogy is one of the most visually spectacular fantasy films of its time, topped only by its excellent storytelling. Also, The Hobbit the trilogy also exists, which is good. If you’re a fan of either set of movies and want to watch them again with better graphics, you’ll be happy to hear that both trilogies are on their way to a 4K UHD Blu-ray release.
Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin) himself first announced the news, and he says the process of remastering movies to 4K Ultra HD was overseen by Peter Jackson. As The Verge points out, The Lord of the Rings the trilogies should benefit greatly from it, thanks to its use of 35mm film and its practical effects.
According to Digital bits, you can get both trilogies in theatrical or extended editions, and will include Dolby Vision and HDR10 High Dynamic Range. You’ll also get Dolby Atmos audio, but you won’t get The Hobbit high frame rate because 4K UHD supports 60 frames per second (fps) instead of the 48 fps used by Peter Jackson for movies.
