We have covered LEGO Ideas before: It’s a system that allows independent LEGO creators to submit their creations to LEGO and fans to vote. If a design gets more than 10,000 votes, LEGO will consider making it a retail set. The last creation to cross this threshold is End of bag, The idyllic house of Bilbo the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
The set is designed by “saabfan”, and it is beautiful. It uses a base designed to look like an open copy of the book, with Tolkien’s quote in the corner. Bilbo’s house features iconic items from books and movies, which you can inspect thanks to a removable roof. The rooms include a kitchen, a pantry, a living room with fireplace, a bedroom, a bathroom. The exterior and interior are full of small organic details.
Just reaching 10,000 votes does not guarantee that a set will be selected by LEGO. But the company has a close relationship with Warner Bros., which is already partnering for LEGO sets and video games based on the Lord of the Rings (among many others). If you are impatient for the one to two year process of getting a set of ideas to store shelves, you can Check out an animated 3D version of LEGO Bag End here.
