Another week, another augmented reality mobile game. Like Pokemon GO, PAC-MAN GEO attempts to exploit a classic game for a new mobile experience. This one builds Pac-Man “mazes” from real world streets, allowing players to pilot the yellow pizza slice dude into real locations.
The game is ready for pre-registration on Android and a a placeholder list on iOS. According to a press release from BANDAI-NAMCO, it will be available in “170 countries” from this month. The list of apps shows that players can use the real world streets of “New York, Paris and Tokyo”, and the screenshots seem to indicate that you will be able to generate a custom map based on your actual location. The game uses the Google Maps API to do its stages.
Monetization for PAC-MAN GEO has not been set, but at this point it’s safe to assume that it will be a free-to-play game with in-app purchases. It remains to be seen whether this game will be fair or whether these purchases will be reasonable.
